BHUTAN TRAVEL INFORMATION

To visit Bhutan, you can either be invited by the government or come as a tourist. All tourists must book a prepaid package tour with a guide; independent travel is not allowed.

For tour arrangements, you can book through Bhutan Travel Specialist. We handle visas, flight reservations, hotel bookings, and tailor the tours to suit your interests.

The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Winter is cold at night but has warm daytime temperatures. High-altitude treks are closed in winter, but we offer low-altitude treks.

During the summer monsoon (June to September), expect rain and possible travel disruptions. We will make every effort to stick to the original program despite any challenges.

The Bhutanese visa process may seem complex, but it’s straightforward once you understand it. You must apply in advance through a tour operator like Book Bhutan Tour and receive approval before traveling. Visas are approved once the full payment, including a $40 visa fee, is transferred to the TCB bank account.

Your visa will be stamped upon arrival at Paro airport or Phuentsholing if entering by road. Provide your passport details like name, address, occupation, nationality, birth details, passport number, and validity. Double-check for accuracy to avoid delays and complications.

All foreign nationals need a visa for Bhutan. Complete the visa application form and send it to us via fax or email at least 6 weeks before arrival. The actual visa will be issued at the entry points (Paro airport or Phuentsholing).

Accommodation in Bhutan offers comfort but not luxury. Traditional Bhutanese style is combined with modern amenities. While some luxury hotels exist, the overall experience is not like an international five-star luxury. Hotels have telephones, fax machines, and long-distance service. The food provided blends Bhutanese and western cuisine.

Hotels and lodges in Bhutan are categorized by the government. International visitors stay in government-approved hotels. Simple lodges have their own charm and offer warm Bhutanese hospitality.
