Day 1Arrival in Paro - Explore Paro Town

Upon arrival in Paro, be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. If the weather is clear during your flight, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Himalayan Mountains. Spend the afternoon exploring the historic Paro Dzong, built in 1646, and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, the country’s oldest temple. Enjoy an evening stroll in Paro town, soaking in the local atmosphere. Overnight in Paro at Hotel Tenzinling Resort.

Day 2Paro to Sharna Zampa - Trek Commencement

Embark on a scenic drive to Drugyal Dzong, where the trek begins. The trail follows the Paro river, leading you through picturesque landscapes, including rice paddies, apple orchards, and forests. Reach the campsite at Sharna Zampa, surrounded by nature’s tranquility. Overnight at camp with an altitude of 2,800m.

Day 3Sharna Zampa to Thangthangkha - Alpine Meadows

Trek for about 7-8 hours, covering 22 km with varying landscapes. The trail takes you through ups and downs, eventually narrowing into a path leading to a meadow for the night’s camp. If the weather permits, catch the first view of the majestic Mt. Jomolhari. Camp altitude at 3,610m.

Day 4Thangthangkha to Jangothang - Mountain Ridges

Continue the trek through the Paro Chhu valley, passing alpine meadows and sparse forests. Cross an army checkpoint and savor breathtaking views of mountain ridges and snow-capped peaks. Reach Jangothang, one of the Himalayas’ most beautiful campsites, with spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari. Camp altitude at 4,080m.

Day 5Jangothang Halt - Rest and Exploration

Take a rest day in Jangothang, offering opportunities for day hikes with panoramic views of lakes and snow-capped mountains. Acclimatize to the altitude and explore the surroundings. Jangothang provides a perfect environment for acclimatization, and you can trek to Tosoh or hike around the area.

Day 6Jangothang to Soi Yaktsa - Bhonte La Pass

Trek to Soi Yaktsa covering 16 km in six to seven hours. Ascend steeply to Bhonte La pass at 4,890m, the trek’s highest point. Descend to the Dhumzo Chhu river, passing the lake of Tshophu. Reach the campsite at Soi Yaktsa (Dhumzo) with a camp altitude of 3,800m.

Day 7Soi Yaktsa to Thombu Shong - Takhung La Pass

Trek for four to five hours, covering 11 km with an ascent of 720m and descent of 340m. Cross the Takhung La pass (4,520m) and descend to Thombu Shong, a serene campsite surrounded by nature. Overnight at an altitude of 4,180m.

Day 8Thombu Shong to Paro - Thombu La Pass

Trek for 6-7 hours, covering 13 km. Cross Thombu La pass (4,380m) and finally reach Gunitsawa. Decide to be collected from Gunitsawa or stay at the campsite, Sharna Zampa, where the trek began.

Day 9Depart Paro

Your Bhutanese adventure concludes as you depart from Paro. Cherish the memories of the mesmerizing landscapes, cultural encounters, and the sense of accomplishment from the trek. Depart with a heart full of Bhutan’s beauty and the warmth of its people. Tashi Delek and safe travels!

The new SDF shall remain effective for four years until 31 August 2027.

What if I already paid US$200 SDF for an upcoming visit?

Any guest who already paid the SDF for their upcoming visit to Bhutan is eligible for a refund of the excess SDF amounts paid.

When do I pay the SDF?

When applying for a visa to enter Bhutan, you will need to pay the SDF. Visas can be applied for at the Department of Tourism’s website.

Are the SDF incentives for long stays still valid?

No, the incentives introduced in June 2023 have been revoked and are no longer applicable. However, the 24-hour SDF waiver for border towns in Bhutan remains valid.
